Conway Area Humane Society Mission Statement

The Conway Area Humane Society is a full service animal shelter located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We opened our doors in 2003, and have rescued over 5,000 homeless animals since our inception. We always go the extra mile for any homeless pet. The CAHS has a track record of success of finding homes for pets that would be deemed as unadoptable by many shelters across the country. We are a no-kill shelter.

We are unique in that we offer a number of programs for people in our community, such as our Lifelong Friends program for senior citizens. We pair hard-to-place senior dogs and cats with seniors who are seeking a companion animal. The adoption fee is often waived for participants, who also receive discounted veterinary services from local veterinary practices. The CAHS also has an Emergency Medical Program for people who need medical treatment, but who do not have anyone to care for their pet while they are hospitalized; the CAHS will assume the care of these pets until their owners are back home. A program is in the works to provide assistance to individuals in hospice care who want their beloved pets with them but who need help in caring for these animals.

The CAHS has also housed the animal victims of domestic violence, providing shelter to these pets until their human counterparts could get their lives back on track.

Like many other animal shelters across the country, the CAHS struggles to keep its doors open during these challenging economic times. It is our hope that the CAHS Home Essay Contest will enable us to continue our important mission of saving the lives of homeless pets.
